We Gathered in Songs, Psalms, Scripture, and Silence under the Advent Wreath - December 2025
Advent Evening Prayer under the Wreath is a simple service based on the ancient liturgy of the hours. We gathered under the hanging Advent wreath at Ascension Church in semi-darkness at 7:00 PM on the first three Tuesdays in Advent (December 2, 9, and 16, 2025) to give thanks for the day and ask for protection in the coming night. With songs, psalms, scripture, and sacred silence, we reflected on the many gifts we have been given and asked God to inspire our church and community and care for those in need. Mostly lay women presiders guided us through the services, which last about 25 minutes and include a candle rite and blessing with incense.
The Catholic Communities of Oak Park and Neighbors were welcomed to join us in this quiet time, away from the many distractions of the secular world, to prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ in our hearts.
