Sacrament Formation - Catholic Communities of Oak Park and Neighbors
What is a sacrament?
As Catholics, we experience the Sacraments as celebrations for experiencing God's Grace. These most important moments in our lives as followers of Christ are, as St. Augustine says, outward and visible signs of inward and invisible grace.
These milestone moments in your faith journey are times to take a breath, carve out some time to prepare for an encounter with God in a new way, and deepen our relationship with God.
How do we prepare for Sacraments?
Preparation for any of the sacraments is a parish-wide endeavor. The entire community accompanies you on this journey!
Adults prepare based on which sacrament they are seeking. Adults, families or couples connect with the preparation team for the sacrament, often through small group or one on one conversations.
Families seeking sacramental preparation for their children come together to prepare for these most important steps in their faith journey, whether they attend one of the parish schools or religious education. The First Communion, Reconciliation, and Confirmation preparation sessions are in addition to the religious education classes and school religion curriculum. The children will ordinarily receive sacraments at the parish and site of their choice. Families also choose which site, day and time for preparation sessions will work best for them.
