Women of St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy and St. Giles
ATTENTION - All Women of SC-SL and SG - Change is Good!
Since the early 1990's, CCW (Council of Catholic Women) has been bringing the women of our parishes together through social and spiritual gatherings and fundraising efforts. We made friends while connecting to our faith community.
Over the past few years, attendance at CCW events and participation at the leadership level have decreased. Women of both St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy and St. Giles communities met to discuss how best to address this change. After much discussion, the following themes came out:
Women want to continue to gather for faith and fellowship.
The current structure of CCW does not work today.
We feel more women of all ages will participate if we do away with the Board, Committees, etc, model and rely on different women working on events on their own time.
We will call ourselves "The Women of St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy and St. Giles". Our first gathering will be Friday, September 19, 2025, prior to the courtyard concert - SEE DETAILS BELOW!
Other events planned include the following:
Annual Coat Drive
The Sharing Tree
Christmas party on Thursday, December 11, 2025
Barefoot Contessa on Saturday, January 31, 2026
A Springtime Social and Service Day
This is an exciting time for the women of our community as we adapt to the changing demands of women’s time.

Beyond Hunger Food Pantry Opportunity - September 6, 2025
The Beyond Hunger Food Pantry provides hunger relief, counseling and nutritional counseling to families from 28 zip codes in Cook County. It is located at First United Church on the corner of Kenilworth and Lake Street in Oak Park.
The Women of our Parish have committed to provide five volunteers on the first Saturday of each month. As Shopping Assistants we gather food items and pack them in large boxes for valets to deliver to clients. We may also bag bread and vegetables.
NEXT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - Saturday, September 6 from 8:30 AM to 10:45 AM
To volunteer please contact Sharon Bresnahan at [email protected] or (708) 383-3430 ext. 420 with any questions.
Beyond Hunger - Formerly known as the Oak Park and River Forest Food Pantry
Hunger never takes a holiday! – “We are here for those who are hungry” is the slogan of Beyond Hunger. In its effort to provide hunger relief, this group provided nutritious groceries, produce, meat and dairy products to 15,873 local families last year. Each month volunteers donate over 1,400 hours of labor helping to feed their hungry neighbors.
NEXT VOLUNTEER DATE ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 - St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy and St. Giles CCW has pledged to provide 5 volunteers to assist at the Beyond Hunger Food Pantry on the first Saturday of each month from 8:30 AM to 10:45 AM on the first shift at their bi-weekly food pantry service. For the Holiday months (November and December), the shift hours may be extended by 30 minutes. Clients remain in their cars while the valets load pre-packed boxes of food items containing a sampling from all the various food stations. We no longer interface directly with the clients. As Shopping Assistants, our job now entails gathering food items from the various food stations and packing them in large boxes for the valets to deliver to the clients. We also are sometimes asked to bag bread items and vegetables.
The Food Pantry is located at First United Church on the corner of Lake Street and Kenilworth Avenue in Oak Park, IL. The Food Pantry provides hunger relief, counseling and nutritional counseling to families from 28 zip codes in Cook County.
CCW volunteers are sent monthly reminders on the Friday, a week before the next service opportunity. The first 5 to respond will represent the parish that month. Come, help feed our community and spend quality time with fellow CCW members.
Want to volunteer or have any questions? – Contact Sharon Bresnahan at [email protected] or (708) 383-3430 ext. 420 with any questions.
Housing Forward Volunteer Opportunity - October 6, 2025
Housing Forward provides year round emergency overnight shelter for those experiencing homelessness in two locations in our community. The parishes of Oak Park support this effort in several ways.
In October, Housing Forward will be expanding its shelter options with the opening of a new 40-bed shelter at 112 S. Humphrey in Oak Park. They are once again asking the women of St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy and St. Giles to help by providing a continental breakfast for Housing Forward clients on the first Monday of each month, starting in October. This is a great service opportunity for teens and families, and can be shared between households.
Next opportunity to volunteer on October 6, 2025 - Sign up for the monthly dates are online by using the SignUpGenius Form below! > Housing Forward Breakfast Sign-Up To learn more about the shelter program, and volunteer opportunities, contact Theresa Lipo at (708) 692-4404 or [email protected].
