Family Mass Community - St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy and St. Giles
The Family Mass Community (FMC) began over 50 years ago in the spirit of Vatican II. The FMC transformed and grew as a lay-led community within the larger St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy and St Giles Parish.
The Family Mass Community gathers each Sunday at 10:00 AM with:
A compelling and child-friendly Sunday Mass that combines beautiful music, powerful homilies, and personal petitions into a memorable experience.
A personal and highly involved community where people know each other and interact with warmth and friendship as we walk together on our journey of faith.
Preparation of each liturgy, including reflection on the Sunday Scripture readings, by the community in small groups.
Sacraments that are integrated in Sunday Masses with the larger community.
Pastoral ministries almost entirely managed by church members such as bereavement, social justice and lay preaching.
Programs that join with the larger St. Giles Church to support children and youth such as Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and youth ministry.
All are welcome - come and see!

Our weekly Family Mass on Sundays at 10:00 AM is an active sign that we are an intentional community. This Mass is held in the St. Giles School Corrigan Gym (1030 Linden Avenue – 2nd Floor – Entrance off Linden Avenue) or in McDonough Hall of the Gleeson Building (1101 Columbian Avenue – 2nd Floor) during the summer months. The Family Mass Community’s unique way of gathering as Community and preparing for weekly Liturgy is a primary form of evangelization. Our focus on the family and children guides the choices we make in preparing for the Mass, and educating our children in our faith.
All are welcome to participate! - If you can not join us on Sunday at 10 am at St. Giles, you can participate via Zoom!
The central focus of our community life is our Sunday liturgy. To prepare for the liturgy, rotating teams of community members attend a meeting lead by an assigned liturgy coordinator and joined by the liturgy director and whenever possible, the priest presider for the Sunday. It is a special time to hear God’s word and share it’s meaning in our world, community and lives.
You do not need any special training or experience to be involved. All members of the team read and reflect on the scriptures in preparation for the Sunday liturgy. The team also determines the responsibilities for the mass such as readers, bread baker, hand washers and book holder. There are many ways all individuals can be involved from the youngest to the oldest.
The Coordinating Board is responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the Community, including budget management and personnel issues, and collaborating with the Pastoral Team on Search Day (a yearly effort by the Community to discern its mission and direction for the coming year) and other Community-wide programs.
The Coordinating Board convenes regular Town Hall meetings at which all issues affecting the Community are discussed, decisions are made and the yearly budget is approved by a vote of the Community members.

Family Mass Community - Pastoral Team
The focus of the Pastoral Team is on the pastoral needs of Community members and on the overall spiritual vision of the Community.
Pastoral Team members are visible witnesses within the Community, supporting and enhancing our relationship with God, promoting faith sharing, spiritual growth, and our commitment to service and discipleship.
As pastoral leaders, this group discerns the call of the Spirit on issues that affect the community.
