Children's Liturgy of the Word - Ascension and St. Edmund Parish
Have you heard the Good News? Calling children (and Adults!) to the Children's Liturgy of the Word at Ascension Church.
Leaders who guide our weekly Children's Liturgy of the Word provide children ages 4-8 an opportunity to experience the Liturgy of the Word in a context more suited to their age and experience. Children hear the Scripture, sing the Psalm, and participate in a dialogue homily, which allows greater access and understanding of the Word of God.
Age requirement - High school or older.
Commitment - Typically once each month. Volunteers sign up 3-4 months in advance.
We have two volunteer positions at each Mass. A leader and a reader. Children's Liturgy of the Word takes place on the second (October 12, 2025) and fourth (October 26, 2025) Sundays of the month at the 10:30 AM Mass at Ascension Church. Please contact us to volunteer or learn more.
WEEKEND READINGS - Some parents read the weekend scriptures to their children throughout the week. You can find simple versions of the readings from the Children’s Lectionary at https://www.pflaum.com/readings/ - If you want to talk to your child about the readings, try starting a discussion by asking a question like the one below. You might be surprised by the answers.
OCTOBER 12, 2025 - Jesus was on a journey to Jerusalem when he met 10 foreigners who had a terrible disease. They cried out, "Jesus, have pity on us." Jesus didn't wait, he cured them immediately, even though they were strangers. We are all called to be like Jesus and help all who need us near and far away. What can you do to help others?
