Children's Liturgy of the Word - Ascension and St. Edmund Parish
Have you heard the Good News? Calling children (and Adults!) to the Children's Liturgy of the Word at Ascension Church.
Leaders who guide our weekly Children's Liturgy of the Word provide children ages 4-8 an opportunity to experience the Liturgy of the Word in a context more suited to their age and experience. Children hear the Scripture, sing the Psalm, and participate in a dialogue homily, which allows greater access and understanding of the Word of God.
Age requirement - High school or older.
Commitment - Typically once each month. Volunteers sign up 3-4 months in advance.
We have two volunteer positions at each Mass. A leader and a reader. Children's Liturgy of the Word takes place on the second (March 8, 2026) and fourth (March 22, 2026) Sundays of the month at the 10:30 AM Mass at Ascension Church. Please contact us to volunteer or learn more.
WEEKEND READINGS - Some parents read the weekend scriptures to their children throughout the week. You can find simple versions of the readings from the Children’s Lectionary at https://www.pflaum.com/readings/ - If you want to talk to your child about the readings, try starting a discussion by asking a question like the one below. You might be surprised by the answers.
MARCH 8, 2026 - Jesus meets a woman at a well. She is there to get water. Can you think of all the ways we use water to make our lives better? Jesus talks to her and tells her a secret. The water he gives will give her a new life. You received that water at Baptism. That water, filled with the Holy Spirit, is a promise that you will be a child of God forever. Ask your family to tell you about the day of your Baptism.
