Hispanic and Latino Catholics - Catholic Communities of Oak Park and Neighbors
The Hispanic and Latino Community adds to the wonderful diversity of our parishes and is a growing and important part of our faith communities. With deep roots in faith and a rich cultural heritage, the Hispanic and Latino members of our parishes bring devotion and joyful traditions that uplift our parishes and schools.
Religious and Cultural
Everyone across our parish communities is invited to partake in our Hispanic and Latino offerings throughout the year including various religious and cultural celebrations such as the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12, El Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in November, and bilingual Stations of the Cross during Lent, among others. The Family Mass Community values the cultural exchange brought by a rich history with members of Guatemalan heritage. Bilingual elements are a regular part of the liturgy. Each January, the celebration of the feast of El Cristo Negro de Esquipulas brings a burst of colorful traditional dresses and deepened spiritual devotion.
Bilingual and Spanish Language Ministry
Families interested in the sacrament of baptism may arrange for it to be celebrated in Spanish with the assistance of Fr. Vittorio Bruscella, CMF, who is fluent in Spanish and provides pastoral care for our parishes.
Young women and their families interested in celebrating a Quinceañera, a religious and cultural tradition, can commemorate this important rite of passage at any of our churches. Youth Director,Maria Perez-Eraci, oversees the formation for our Quinceañera Program.
