Adult Christian Initiation (OCIA) - Catholic Communities of Oak Park and Neighbors
Have you or someone you know thought about officially joining the Catholic Church? Have you or someone you know thought about being baptized, joining the Catholic Church or completing your sacraments of initiation? Maybe you have decided but are not sure where to start?
The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is a process to guide you in your discernment as well as a pathway to become Catholic.
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is how people can question, search, and learn about the Catholic faith. It is also the journey that leads to full initiation into the Catholic Church, which consists of receiving the three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist (First Communion).
Would you like to learn more about the Catholic faith or complete your Sacraments of Initiation? If so, please submit the OCIA Inquiry Form below or contact Diane Lawrence,Director of Ascension and St. Edmund Parish Ministries, at (708) 848-2703 ext. 255 or [email protected] or Marci Madary,Director of Spirit and Light, at (708) 383-3430 ext. 404 or [email protected].
OCIA Companion Sponsor
A Companion Sponsor for OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) is a parishioner who would like to accompany a person who is preparing to receive the sacraments. While the individual will have a formal sponsor who they choose, a Companion Sponsor plays a vital role in helping the person understand what it means to live as a Catholic and assist in integrating the individual into the life of the Catholic community.
A Companion Sponsor is expected to connect with the person one or two times each month. Activities may include (but aren’t limited to) the following:
Attend mass together
Share a meal
Go to speakers or other events in the Oak Park Catholic parishes
Go to a Catholic baptism, funeral, or wedding
Take a walk
Talk about faith
Participate in volunteer service
Companion Sponsors will receive training prior to being paired with an individual and will continue to be supported while they work with a person.
If you are interested or have questions, please contact Marci Madary at [email protected].
