Lenten Program of Visio Divina - “Divine Seeing”
Moving into the Mystery - As the holy season of Lent begins, you may be seeking quiet renewal, deeper prayer, or a new way to encounter God. During this sacred season, the combined parishes of Oak Park will offer a Lenten Program of Visio Divina - “Divine Seeing.” Through reflection and art, we will be invited into the mystery of Christ’s journey to the cross and His gift of peace.
To help guide us in this Lenten pilgrimage, we will use the book, The Art of Lent, (a painting a day from Ash Wednesday to Easter) by Sister Wendy Becket.
Using the practice of Visio Divina, we will explore various Lenten themes on four consecutive Mondays, beginning on February 23. You may choose to attend an afternoon or an evening gathering. The gatherings will take place at:
Saint Edmund McGivern Center at 1:00 PM on Monday afternoons.
Saint Giles McDonough Hall Conference Room at 7:00 PM on Monday evenings, except Monday, February 23, when Visio Divina will meet in the Dore Parish Center in the Third Floor Conference Room.
No prior experience with art or Visio Divina is needed - only a willingness to look, listen and pray. If you would like to join a group, books will be provided. Please contact the Saint Catherine-Saint Lucy and Saint Giles parish Office at (708) 383-3430 to sign up and receive information about picking up your book.
If you cannot join a group but you are interested in exploring this Lenten journey, you can use this resource as a personal meditation, or you might like to share your insights with a friend, a partner or a small group once a week. Contact the office for available books. The Art of Lent may also be purchased directly from Amazon.
Lenten Family Reflection Book for Children
Spirit and Light's Lifelong Learning Committee is proud to offer Make Room: A Child's Guide to Lent and Easter as this year's family reflection book.
This beautifully illustrated work by Laura Alary connects everyday family activities with the themes of Jesus' ministry, showing how these simple tasks mirror the values of justice, love, and sacrifice that Jesus lived. It invites children to wonder about the story of Lent and Easter and “make room, time, and space” for Jesus in their everyday lives through acts of kindness, hospitality, and self-reflection.
Book includes a kit with 4 special gifts to enhance your Lenten practices at home, all for $15. Sold after all Masses on Sunday, February 22.
