Our Catholic Communities celebrated the Rites of Sending and Election - February 22, 2026
The Rite of Election at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago for 2026 was held on Sunday, February 22, 2026. This event marks a major step in the OCIA process (formerly RCIA), where catechumens (unbaptized) and candidates (baptized) are formally recognized by the Bishop to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at Easter. Participants were formally presented to Most Reverend Robert J. Lombardo, CFR (Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago), signed the Book of the Elect, and began their final period of purification and enlightenment.
The Rite of Sending preceded the Rite of Election during the morning Masses at Ascension and St. Giles Churches, allowing the Oak Park Parishes to send their members to the Holy Name Cathedral.
