Cooperation Makes It Happen! - A popular Sesame Street song reminds us that “Co-op-er-a-tion makes it happen, co-op-er-at-ion, working together!” - The Migrant Ministry is a vibrant example of this adage, experienced not only in its interfaith support but also in its collaboration with other parishes and organizations. Recent visits to Centro San Edmundo underscore and celebrate a collaborative spirit striving to not only meet the needs of the migrants, but also those of longer-term immigrants and the unhoused.
Housing Forward staff members recently visited Centro San Edmundo to learn of the services that are also available to the unhoused and to review a recently agreed upon partnership to assist a migrant family that had been living in a Housing Forward emergency shelter. Various faculty members of Loyola University’s Department of Sociology toured the facilities before embarking on a research project including the Migrant Ministry to learn more about the unmet needs of migrants and immigrants. A staff member of a CPS school contacted the Ministry seeking assistance for two migrant families who had lost everything in a tragic apartment fire. By sheer coincidence (actually the Holy Spirit!), a donation of blankets, sheets, air mattresses, pads, and sleeping bags had just arrived the day before from St. Anne Parish in Barrington. The families were thrilled and relieved.
We are blessed with an amazing network of like-minded faith centers and organizations that cooperate - and make it happen! All in the service of our brothers and sisters in need.
