As we continue to celebrate the Christmas season, our faith reminds us that hope is not rooted in perfect circumstances, but in God’s steady presence with us, especially in times of struggle. What an important message as we approach the New Year 2026.
Christian hope is not a denial of reality; it is trust that God is at work even when answers are unclear. The Holy Family is a great example of this.
Prayer becomes essential in moments like these - not an escape, but as a place to bring our fears, questions, exhaustion - honestly before God. In prayer, we remember that we are not alone, that God listens, and that our worries matter. Even a simple daily prayer at the kitchen table, in the car, or before bed, can recenter our hearts and remind us of where our strength comes from.
Let us also remember that the Eucharist and our parish community, especially when we gather at Mass, also sustain our hope. Each time we gather for Mass we are fed not only with the Body and Blood of Christ, but the assurance that God is faithful. Around the altar, we stand with others facing similar fears and uncertainties. Together we become signs of hope for one another, through kindness, shared support, and compassion.
As we look at the new year may we hold fast to prayer, draw strength from the Eucharist, and lean on our community, with trust that God will guide us forward, one faithful step at a time.
Have a safe and blessed week ahead!
On New Year’s Eve, December 31, there will be one evening Mass which I will celebrate at Saint Edmund Church. Let us celebrate who we are as a family of faith and hope.
With you a Christian. For you, a priest.
