Honoring Our Migrant Fathers - Father’s Day is also celebrated on the third Sunday in June in many of the countries of origin of the migrants we serve, including Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, and Mexico. We join the migrant families in honoring their fathers on this day, and note how many of the fathers who we have been honored to get to know, are truly our heroes.
Fathers carried their children through the treacherous Darien Gap and protected them from the human traffickers, drug cartels, and other risks experienced on their way to the United States. Once here, they seek work, accepting jobs way below their professional capacity, but at least a job that could bring them closer to the dreams they have for their children. Many of the jobs are far away and require long commutes, but the fathers are grateful for the work.
Buoyed by their recent gift of $70B, ICE has recently become more active in the area. Because so many fathers get jobs that require being outside, they are at greater risk of being detained. We admire the migrant fathers for their hard work, commitment to their families, and courage.
Thank you for making our work possible! Donations are accepted on Monday mornings from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the former Saint Bernardine School, 815 Elgin in Forest Park. WE HAVE A GREAT NEED FOR TOWELS, BEDDING AND SMALLER SIZE MEN’S SHOES.
