Preparing for March - In anticipation of a larger ICE presence as the weather improves in Chicago and surrounding areas, we have begun to prepare our families and those who come to our free store in the event they are seeing officers in their neighborhoods or are themselves apprehended. In addition to providing forms for temporary guardianship of their children and power of attorney forms for property, we are providing two key phone numbers they should know. The phone numbers are printed on a blue bracelet that we now have available, so those phone numbers are as close as their wrists.

Those phone numbers are: ICIRR or the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights 855-435-7693. To report ICE activity and aid our migrant sisters and brothers who are in detention.

You should know that the “free stores” are now open. Volunteers are offering clothing, coats, boots, and bedding as well as a breakfast space and a children’s playroom. Donations are accepted on Monday mornings from 9:00 PM to 12:00 PM at Saint Bernardine School, 815 Elgin Ave, Forest Park. Please, only seasonal (winter) clothing, boots, coats, and bedding.
