91st Annual Red Mass & Reception Honoring Pope Leo XIV - Wednesday, October 8, 2025 - Mass at 5:15 PM at Holy Name Cathedral - Reception immediately following Mass at Loyola University Chicago

The Catholic Lawyers Guild of Chicago warmly invites all lawyers, judges, legal professionals, and their families to the 91st Annual Votive Red Mass of the Holy Spirit, a cherished tradition dating back to the 12th century. Known as the Red Mass, this tradition brings together members of the legal community from all faith traditions to pray for those entrusted with the administration of justice. It is a time to reflect on our shared commitment to fairness, service, and the rule of law.

The Catholic Lawyers Guild is also pleased to announce our 2025 Red Mass Honoree: His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. Following the Mass, we welcome you to a celebratory reception at the Corboy Law Center at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. The reception will include drinks, appetizers, and time for fellowship and reflection. During the evening, the Catholic Lawyers Guild will present the Catholic Lawyer of the Year Award to Pope Leo XIV in recognition of his service as a canon lawyer, his historic election to the papacy, and his unwavering dedication to justice, compassion, and leadership within the Catholic tradition. His deep connection to Chicago and the Americas makes this honor especially meaningful. 

Most Reverend Daniel T. Murphy, OSA, DD will serve as the celebrant for the Red Mass. As a close friend of Pope Leo XIV, Bishop Turley will share personal stories during the reception and will accept the award on His Holiness’s behalf.

A special registration rate is available for Early Career Lawyers within their first one to five years of practice. Registration includes a complimentary one-year membership to the Catholic Lawyers Guild. As always, the reception is free for current law students.
